# Quote for multiple subscriptions or customers

> Bring several subscriptions or purchases into one proposal, including new subscriptions for child customers, with one signature flow and a combined quote value.

Use one quote to agree on several subscriptions or purchases with your customer. They review one proposal and complete one signature flow, while each subscription or invoice keeps its own products, prices, and billing settings.

This is useful when a parent company negotiates a purchase for several subsidiaries, or when one customer buys several contracts together. Each subscription, subscription update, or one-off invoice is a **configuration** within the quote.

## Choose the right configuration type

| Your customer needs to approve | Configuration type | Customers supported |
| - | - | - |
| Several new contracts with separate products or billing settings | **New subscription** | The quote customer and its direct child customers |
| One-time purchases for several teams or subsidiaries | **One-off invoice** | The quote customer and its direct child customers |
| Changes to several existing subscriptions | **Subscription update** | Existing subscriptions belonging to the quote customer |

All configurations in the quote editor must have the same type and use the quote's currency. You can include up to 50 configurations in one quote.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A quote on a parent customer cannot currently update existing subscriptions
> belonging to its children. Create the update quote on the child that owns
> the subscriptions. You can include several of that child's subscriptions
> in the same update quote.

A **phase** is a period within one subscription, such as a trial followed by a paid period. Use phases when the same subscription changes over time. Use configurations when you need separate subscriptions or invoices.

## Business use cases

### Negotiate one purchase for several subsidiaries

> [card] Example 💡
>
> Northstar Group purchases annual subscriptions for Northstar France and
> Northstar Germany. Sales sends one quote to the parent company, with one
> **New subscription** configuration assigned to each child. Each subsidiary
> has its own products, quantities, prices, and activation settings. Both
> configurations use EUR, the quote's currency.

The parent reviews the total proposal and signs for both configurations. After signature, each subscription follows its configured activation settings and stays attached to its assigned customer.

You can agree on the group purchase in one proposal while keeping each subsidiary's subscriptions separate.

### Sell separate contracts to one customer

> [card] Example 💡
>
> You sell Atlas Software an annual analytics subscription for its finance
> team and a separate support subscription for its operations team. Add two
> **New subscription** configurations assigned to Atlas Software, with the
> products, prices, and billing settings for each contract.

Your customer approves both contracts together. Your team can then manage each subscription separately, without combining their products or billing schedules into one subscription.

### Agree on changes to several existing subscriptions

> [card] Example 💡
>
> Meridian already has two subscriptions: one for its sales team and one
> for its support team. You negotiate additional seats for both. Create an
> update quote on Meridian and add one **Subscription update** configuration
> for each existing subscription.

Your customer reviews both changes in one proposal and completes one signature flow. Each update applies to its selected subscription according to its configured update settings. Both subscriptions must belong to the quote customer.

### Bundle one-time purchases across subsidiaries

> [card] Example 💡
>
> You sell onboarding services to Northstar France and a training package
> to Northstar Germany. Create a quote on Northstar Group with two
> **One-off invoice** configurations, one assigned to each child customer.
> Both purchases use EUR.

The parent approves the purchases together. Each configuration produces a separate invoice for its assigned customer, following its issue date and draft settings.

> [!TIP]
>
> Use separate quotes when you need to combine different configuration types,
> such as a new subscription and a one-off purchase, or different currencies.

## Create the quote

1. Enable **Allow multiple configurations** in **Settings > Quoting**.
2. [Create a quote](https://docs.hyperline.co/docs/quotes/overview.md#create-new-quote) for the customer who will receive the proposal. For a purchase across subsidiaries, select the parent customer.
3. In **Quote details**, click **Add configuration** and choose the type.
4. For a new subscription or one-off invoice, if the quote customer has children, select the customer first. The option tagged **Quote customer** keeps the configuration with the customer selected for the quote. Existing subscriptions for the selected customer appear for reference. Click **Continue**.
5. Configure the products and billing settings, then save to return to the quote editor. For an update, select the existing subscription and [configure the changes](https://docs.hyperline.co/docs/quotes/subscription-update.md).
6. Use the button below the existing configurations to add another of the same type: **New subscription**, **Subscription update**, or **One-off invoice**.
7. Complete every configuration, review the shared terms and quote value, then finalize and send the quote for signature.

You can use a [quote template](https://docs.hyperline.co/docs/quotes/templates.md) to pre-fill the shared terms, attachments, and display settings.

## Manage customers and configurations

While the quote is a draft, you can:

* **Change the assigned customer** for a new subscription or one-off invoice: click the pencil next to the customer name in the configuration header. Select a direct child or the option tagged **Quote customer**. Archived child customers cannot be selected.
* **Reorder configurations** by dragging their header handles. The customer-facing quote and PDF follow this order.
* **Edit or remove a configuration** using its header actions.
* **Resume an unfinished configuration** using **Configure subscription**, **Configure update**, or **Configure invoice**.

For subscription updates, select a different eligible existing subscription for each configuration. You cannot select the same subscription twice within one quote.

To change the quote's configuration type, remove all existing configurations first.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Adding more than one configuration requires multiple configurations to be
> enabled for your account. If it is disabled, you can still edit or remove
> existing configurations.

## Review the proposal and signature outcome

Hyperline calculates the combined [quote value](https://docs.hyperline.co/docs/quotes/overview.md#quote-value) automatically. To change that value, edit the configurations.

The customer reviews all configurations in the same quote and PDF. The PDF lists them in sequence, with page breaks determined by the content. Shared terms and attachments apply to the proposal as a whole.

Signing covers the whole quote. Once the quote is fully signed, each configuration follows its own activation, update, or invoice settings. The resulting subscriptions and invoices remain separate and attached to their assigned customers.

For example, two new subscriptions can have different start dates even though the customer approves them together. For one-off invoices, the [issue date and draft settings](https://docs.hyperline.co/docs/quotes/one-off-invoice.md) determine when each invoice is issued or prepared for review.
